Course requirements

8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course

This is the first of three courses required by New York State in order to work as a security guard. It is a general introductory course. Upon successful completion of the course the guard is issued a training certificate. A copy of this certificate must accompany the security guard’s registration application when submitted to the Department of State.

16 Hour On-The-Job Training Course

Once you have completed the 8 Hour Pre-assignment Training Course and have submitted your security guard license application to New York State you have 90 days to complete this New York State mandated 16hour course. This training program should be relevant to the guard’s duties, requirements of the work site, and the needs of the employer.

8 Hour Annual in Service Training Course

This is the third security guard training course required by New York State. This training must be completed once every year. It is designed to
meet current training needs, refresh and to update guards on changes in the security field. The guard must continuously complete this course as
a prerequisite for renewal of his or her guard license.
